In this monthly two hour class, you’ll learn how to hand sew Sue Spargo’s whimsical Christmas trees from her beloved Tinsel Book. Guided by Megan, you’ll explore a variety of embroidery stitches on wool appliqué, bringing each tree to life with vibrant Perle Cotton Eleganza Threads.
Whether you join in January to get a head start or sign up later in the year, this class ensures you’ll be ready for the holidays. By working steadily through the blocks, you can prepare early for Christmas décor or finish a complete quilt in time for the season.
This beginner friendly yet inspiring workshop covers the first three trees in the nine-block quilt. Keep an eye out for Tinsel Classes 2 & 3, where you’ll complete the entire quilt and expand your embroidery skills even further.

To follow along with the class, you’ll need Sue Spargo’s Tinsel Book. This essential guide includes all nine Christmas tree patterns plus detailed stitch instructions.
Complete Your Project with the Kit
We also offer a Tinsel Class Kit, which includes carefully selected wool pieces and the exact vintage Kaffe Fassett stripe fabric featured in the Tinsel Book. This ensures your quilt matches Sue Spargo’s original design. Please note: threads are not included in the kit. You’ll need to bring or purchase Perle Cotton Eleganza Threads separately to decorate your trees.

| Instructor Bio: | Megan Sorn reluctantly learned to sew when her dear friend Karol Fischbach insisted that she attend her free quilting class at church. Having failed sewing in 7th grade she decided that she was doomed to a life without sewing. Karol was a wonderful instructor and Megan has been obsessively quilting ever since. She likes to share her knowledge with others and uses her art school background to help people create free motion designs and choose colors/fabrics. Her newest love is designing in wool. |
